Assessment 2019-20: Nature Angel

It's hard to write about Nature Angel without gushing.  She's a child of so many talents and so much goodness!

Colloquium, Morning Meeting, Elementary Read Alouds, American Rhythm, church activities, and our 52 Hikes comprised part of her schooling.

She's diligent and careful--her work is always high quality.

She will accept nothing less from herself.

Her individual studies included:

Language Arts:  Oak Meadow Grade 7 Language Arts--completed.  This was a rigorous program with lots of reading, lots of writing, and plenty of spelling and grammar.  It's also a program requiring lots of art, which is why it is a good fit for Nature Angel.

History:  Oak Meadow Grade 7 History--completed.  Same as above, only instead of spelling and grammar, this program included geography and research.  I think she was on the computer gathering information almost every school day.

Greek:  Memoria Press Elementary Greek Year 1, Duolingo, The Book of Mormon in Greek.  She completed the entire Year 1 curriculum, she's accrued at least 90 hours on Duolingo, and she's slowly working her way through The Book of Mormon in Greek--this will be a long-term project.

Math:  Saxon 8/7--completed.  She does not love math, and it does not seem to be a comfortable study, but she is entirely competent.

Personal Devotional:  The Doctrine and Covenants--completed.  I wonder if there was ever a 13 year old as faithful and dedicated to personal scripture study as this girl.

She is artistic to her very core.

Drawing
Painting
Sewing
Crocheting
Woodworking
Papercrafting
Cake decorating

There's no end to her creating.
This crocheted blue dragon is now one of Mister Man's treasures.

This is a wrist fidget--a crocheted cuff with textured ribbons, buttons, even Legos attached to it to help Brother stay calm and focused.

Slippers for Ladybug

A camping play set for Baymax's Calico Critters.  The tent is canvas and collapsible.  There are even tiny, tiny fishing rods.

A toe shoe holder for Pixie.

She baked and decorated her own birthday cake.

She's a born teacher and nurturer.

If she calls the kids to a game or a play or a craft, they respond as to the Pied Piper.

She cares diligently for her pets.  Her bunny died of unknown causes at the very start of the school year.  It was devastating for her.  When the time was right, we bought her a pair of guinea pig brothers, who might be the happiest guinea pigs on earth.  She is completely responsible for them, and they fill her heart with joy.

When Little Princess takes over the kitchen duties in emergencies, Nature Angel comforts and soothes the children.  I have come home to peace and order every time I have had to be away for emergencies.

She is a champion tucker-inner.

She has been president of her youth class at church, so before COVID-19 interfered, she was receiving terrific leadership training and experience in that role.

It has been a very lonely 7th grade year for Nature Angel.   Though she is an introvert, needing and relishing long hours alone, she was first limited in her social events by family crises, and then her world just closed down with quarantine.

I'm glad she's part of my world.

What a blessing she will be to whatever part of the larger world will eventually include her!

  1. What a talented girl! The dragon is awesome. The camping set reminds me of the little furnishings I used to make for my tiny bears out of granola bar boxes and scraps when I was a kid. And I'm impressed with the paintings, too. I'd like to be able to paint.

  2. The gifts she made! The artistry! Then there's all the other stuff...
