A Week, Briefly (Jan 10, 2022)

Wonderfully enough, we had a relatively boring week.  Beowulf did have a 2 hour breakdown on Thursday morning that undid our school day (a hard moment), and Grandma came over for a visit on Friday (a fun moment), but other than that, we did school, took care of babies, went to church activities, and took care of home.

Santa brought us some more magnetic tiles to add to our collections, and the kids are making the most of them.

I love Sugar Bear's face as she feels the paint going on her little feet!

Li'l K was more into the project than Sugar Bear.

Dancing with scarves was a big hit one day . . . but playing with the scarves afterward was even more fun.

The Munchkin has begun to ask to "do school" each day.

He's so proud of each new accomplishment!

In spite of his breakdown, Beowulf finished a school book this week!

We finished A Lion to Guard Us, and we're continuing to read Mr. Revere and I.  We're also making slow progress through The Golden Goblet as events have happened to keep us from getting as much evening reading done as I'd like.

We had a lovely snow this weekend, and the kids spent hours out of doors yesterday.

One night, one of the door alarms wasn't set, and one kid was aware enough to leave the room, release his siblings, and convince them to steal food and play with the computers.  Sir Walter Scott discovered them when he got up for work at 5:00 am.  Later in the day, Nature Angel saw the computer history included several pages of pornography.

Several serious conversations followed.

We've not installed parental controls up to this point because we've believed that teaching the kids to choose to avoid such content is better than just blocking it.  This philosophy has worked with most of our children.

But it looks like this little group, with their physical limitations in their brain development, will require us to reevaluate that philosophy.

This was the last week of our holiday break from dance.  We're supposed to dive back in to two review rehearsals and then an entire semester of performances, but the new wave of covid may stop us in our tracks . . . only time will tell.

  1. I am glad your week was as calm as it was. Yes, the struggle between self regulation and being regulated is real and filled with trial and error. We haven't faced that particular problem, but many others over the years. It is a huge struggle of release and retract as you and they test the waters.

  2. Glad to be able to visit a little last week... The children were charming.

  3. Oh, I miss little people! We had such fun with playsilks, back in the day. I used to buy blanks from Dharma Trading and dye them up myself. :sigh: I know I still have dye, and I think I might even have a couple silks left. I should make them up for Kasen. If I put it on my to do list now, they'll be ready around the time he is, lol.
