A Week, Briefly (11/23/20)

Photo credit:  The vast majority of the photos in this post were taken by Nature Angel.  If it is a good photo--it was her.   This week was about survival. We needed enough routine to stay organized, and enough flexibility to handle the special occasions that ruled the week. The holiday season is hard. We had a birthday one day.  I had a long, long medical appointment one day.  We had Daddy gone to work most of the days.  We had our usual schedule with our RBT; we had an unusual schedule with our BCBS (ABA therapy staff members).   Is my anxiety worse because the kids' anxiety is worse? Or vice-versa? We practiced gratitude every day!   And one thing to be grateful for was Super Star's first day at her new job!!!!!   She humored me with a proud-mom moment before she left for the day. She loves her job!  It is so perfect for her, and she is so perfect for it.   She gets all of the grown-up benefits, and she's reveling in them!   ("They're paying me for Thanksgiving,

It was a weird week.   I took a ton of pictures, but they were mostly for the moms of The Munchkin and Little Mister Frog.  (I stole a lot of the pics in this post from Nature Angel.)   We had Morning Meeting every morning.     We did independent school.   We had our kind-of-sort-of Academy.   We read together at night.   We played outdoors.    We walked our neighborhood trail for Hike #44 of 52  97.51 miles + 3.4 = 100.91 miles   I tried so hard to get us on another hike, but . . . I couldn't. In many ways we are so very blessed.  Nonetheless, I fought a decided spirit of discouragement. It's a good thing we're practicing gratitude every single day! Belle has found that immersion in one subject at a time is more productive than trying to balance many subjects.  She's settled into a routine of leap-frogging through her subjects, doing several weeks' work at once in one area of study, then putting it away to focus on another.  I've asked her to please, pleas

It was a regular old homeschool week for us--Morning Meetings, book work, Academies, Colloquiums, Evening Readings, child care, behavior management, ABA therapy, daily walks, outdoor play, indoor play, and feeling like the days are both too long and not long enough.   Hike #43 of 52--neighborhood walks 94.11 miles + 3.4 = 97.51 miles Oh! The Munchkin loved that dandelion!  He "smelled" it and loved it and carried it for the whole walk.   We did not take a hike on Friday because Sir Walter Scott worked overtime,  I did about a million chores, and the kids made their own outdoor fun raking and jumping in leaves.  Little Princess took over 200 pictures!  Here are a very select few: That's Baymax, somersaulting into the leaves. Love that landing! Brother, diving in! Nature Angel--I can't tell if she's at the beginning or end. :) Lola, hurdling. I think Beowulf can fly! Mister Man dove in deep! Ladybug walked on her hands--she held that pose for a while! Little Prince
