I Got Sick

Image
And that's why I missed a week of posting about our homeschool. I was so sick. So. Sick. But now I'm okay, and my family helped me every day, and we didn't do much school, but we did what we could, and it's okay. (So I keep telling myself every time I want to panic about how hard it is [again!] to get really going with a productive school year.} It's okay. No one died. No one abandoned the family. We didn't give up. We just had to take time off . . . during our third week. Habits we kept up because my husband and teen daughters are amazing:    Morning Meeting    Math    Cursive/Copywork    Individual Subjects    Seminary--Yes!  That started this week! Before I realized how sick I was and how awful I would eventually feel, we engaged in a little bit of what I like to call "documentary school."  This means I found a documentary online that goes with one of our areas of study, and we watched it. 1.  We watched the National Ge...

The Week the Chiefs Won

Image
It was a house divided here on Superbowl Sunday .   There were our devoted Chiefs fans. There was our devoted 49ers fan. There were those of us who didn't care one way or another. So it was the best of times and the worst of times almost constantly for the whole evening. But there was popcorn. So that was good. The shooting at the parade (which we did not attend) was bad, though. It's been a bit of work around here to process it. We had a good, solid school day on Monday .  Nothing special.  Nothing awful.  I always appreciate a good non-descript day. Lola helped cut potatoes for dinner. Everyone was wired on Tuesday .  I don't know why! However, it was a beautiful day, and I decided that rather than try to wrangle the younger 6 into schoolwork that they were clearly incapable of, we went to the park. A few kids took kites. It was beautiful and breezy and just warm enough. We stayed until people needed to eat. I was going to do school after lunch, but...

A Week, Briefly (Mar 13, 2023)

Image
We're trucking along in a good groove right now.  Reading, playing, talking, researching every day in some way or another. This was a week of being in the middle of books.  Nothing new started.  Nothing new finished. The teens and I completed unit 3 of American History, so next week we're returning to a couple of World History units. We had a friend for Lola over on Wednesday, and on Saturday, we had a friend over for the boys.  It makes the days both easier (because a friend makes all of the play activities new and fun again) and harder (because no one will listen to mom when a friend is over).   Pixie is hilarious with her students, and she's having a camping, hiking, rappelling outing this weekend. At the top of the cliff! Belle is still checking items off her mission to-do list. Rose Red is in a new, sweet relationship.  I have good hopes. Super Star has tonsillitis (boo) and a new job (hooray).  I hope she gets better easily and has joy...
