We Got a New-to-Us Minivan (edited)
I've been writing and writing about car troubles this year, and we were finally done in by our teen car. The current set of necessary repairs were to cost more than we paid for the car originally, so we decided to donate it to a veteran's organization, and I spent the week shuttling people to and from work.
I don't mind serving them at all, but the time it took felt like it took over my mind, my body, and my schedule. I started to feel sick and exhausted, and I struggled to get normal things done. I eventually said to Sir Walter Scott, "The girls are free on Friday to babysit. We are going car shopping, and we are not coming home without a car!"
We are 2 years and 2 months away from fitting "the whole family" at home into an 8-passenger minivan, so we decided to go that route, and then when we don't need our full-size van we'll trade that for the pick-up truck Sir Walter Scott craves.
I remember choosing to buy a 15-passenger van (despite our fertility issues) as a statement of faith that I knew our family would grow into it one way or another.
And we did!
God is so Good.
And He is Good again because we came home with a new-to-us minivan!
All of that to say that we were very boring because I was out driving all of the time.
The teens and I managed to finish To Kill a Mockingbird (while crying), and we are very sorry to be done.
The younger kids and I reviewed our 50 states and capitals and continued reading The Story of Science: Newton in the Middle, The Golden Treasury of Natural History, Prairie Lotus, and Counting Thyme.
I never assigned a written narration or an art project because I was gone too much to review them. But we did have very good conversations about science, history, modern politics, and ethics.
Everyone did math--even Brother who finally got to start Pre-Algebra (he is so happy!).
The teens ran Morning Meeting when I missed it, and I ran it when I could.
Speaking of running, we started our Couch to 5K training. We completed the three runs scheduled for the first week!!
We had a fabulous American Rhythm performance at the long-term care center that seems to love us best.
The kids had church activities that included church service, line dancing, picnicking, and basketball.
Nature Angel passed her CAP review board and is officially a 2nd lieutenant!!
I am so, so, so, so happy to get to stay home in the mornings and evenings this coming week . . . there just aren't words to describe my happiness!
Yay! So glad you were able to find a good car and that it will simplify your schedules so much! Driving everyone everywhere really is exhausting!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new to you Minivan. I know that will help you all so much.
