A Week, Briefly (12/6/21)

My computer and Blogger are not getting along these days.  I'm having to get veeeeerrrry creative about reading and writing here.  I hope that relations are repaired soon.

We had such a deliciously normal week, that I have little to report other than to say, "We put up our Christmas tree.  We did school.  We celebrated another birthday.  We took care of babies."

The best picture I have to share came from last week.

Nature Angel took this picture from our van window as the van was moving.  I didn't see it until today, so that's why it's here instead of in my last post.

I love how she sees our world.

10 out of 12 kids home for tree decorating!

Ladybug finished another spelling book.  With this one and the last one done, we've renewed our efforts at The Good and the Beautiful Language Arts 3.

Our Christmas picture book reading has prompted Baymax to read on his own.  After I read the stories, I put them on our mantel.  The kids are free to read them at their leisure after that, and Baymax is really, truly reading.  It's a true joy to his homeschool mom's heart!

We did have one adventure this week.  Our church Christmas party was on Friday night, and all of the Young Women sang a song, accompanied by several ukeleles.  Little Princess was one of the uke players.

Our Christmas book list included the following titles:
     The Polar Express
     Holly and Ivy
     The Little Drummer Boy
     Dasher
     Christmas in the Barn
     How the Grinch Stole Christmas
     We Were There

We're almost done with Tirzah.

We started The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.

Ladybug worked the whole week on multiplication flashcards.  I'd been trying computer drills and games, but so much effort was put into the gaming part that the memorizing was falling by the wayside.  Old-fashioned flashcard drills have been almost magic.  Next week we'll reduce the amount of time we spend drilling and get out her regular assignments as well.

The weather continues to be unseasonably warm, and the kids are outside riding bikes and tumbling through our leafless woods in their shirtsleeves.

The short days do lend themselves to lots of indoor play, though, and the kids are also making unending creative messes as they cut up cardboard boxes and use skads of of glue to "make projects."

I love having little to report . . . our days are not completely peaceful, but they are so much more comfortable than they have been for several months.

  1. I'm curious what the first picture is of--the one Nature Angel took from the moving van...

  2. So glad you had a lovely, easier week than usual. I pray the coming weeks remain the same.
