A Week, Briefly (8/30/21)

We have Monarch Butterfly caterpillars!!!

Brother is back in the psych hospital.

It was that kind of week.

We did our best at normal . . . but it didn't get very good results.

We did have Morning Meeting each day.
We didn't read much at bedtime because bedtimes were damaged beyond repair most nights.

We did walk the dogs as much as we could.
We didn't walk the dogs on a very regular schedule because it stormed a lot--but we saw a magnificent crawdad trying to cross the road to get back to his regular watery home.

We did try for school each day.
We didn't get very much done that could be called "school."

We did an art project after watching a science video . . . all except Beowulf (and Brother, of course).

We cried.
We hugged.
We talked.
We filled out paperwork.
We stared into space.

Super Star and my mom folded 6 loads of laundry. (Such a blessing!)

School has to take a different shape than it currently has.  In the state of Missouri I am required to teach 4 basic subjects:  reading, math, social science, and science.  I must log 600 hours on those subjects.

The law does not say that the hours must be divided evenly.

(Electives may fill the remaining required hours.)

Our homeschool is going to have to take on a therapeutic quality.  We will not survive otherwise.

We are way down at the bottom of the pyramid right now . . . language arts and math are too far out of our reach.

Yes, we have filed paperwork for Brother to move to a pediatric residential psych treatment center.

Yes, we have completed our intake for wrap-around services.

We don't know what is coming, though, and for now, Brother has to come home, and we have to survive.

In the mean time, Nature Angel has been taking beautiful pictures of mundane moments, and my heart sings with the beauty she sees and shares.

We are so fragile . . . we need as much beauty and hope as we can find.

  1. Know that no matter where Brother lives and receives care, YOU will always be his forever mother. Motherhood looks very different sometimes with a child with severe mental health issues. I pray that he will receive the care that he so desperately needs and that you guys receive the rest, safety and time to grow and thrive that you all so desperately need.
    Blessings, Dawn

  3. The dolphins are so fun! And the photos are SO ELEGANT, they should be entered in a photo contest! They took my breath away!!

  4. Those photos are striking! I can see how they'd make your heart happy. The yarn one totally looks like a good stock image to use as a background for a "pinnable image."

I'm sorry things are tough. You sound like you've got a good sense of what you can and can't handle right now, which is good. Praying for you.
