Baby Takeover!

We know how to take care of babies around here.

We know how to do school with babies, too.

But our skills must be dusty because Little Mister took over everything!

"The baby IS the lesson!"

Honestly, writing a list has helped me feel much better about the week.  We clearly did more than it felt like we did.

Lola organized her candy in a make-up case inherited from an older sister.

The kids discovered that hedge apples make great soccer ball substitutes.

We saw a TikTok about "growing gummy bears."  
We did it!
They look nothing like the videos show, but that's still a pretty big gummy bear.

We finished reading The Kite Fighters.  It was a windy, clear day, and Baymax asked, "Can we fly kites instead of going on a walk?"
Yes!!
(I walked on the path while they flew kites.)
(Win-Win)

We also finished A Single Shard.

And we started Year of Impossible Goodbyes by Sook Nyul Choi.

Oooooohhhhhhh!  This one has us all on edge.  

Brother said, "I don't like what's happening, and I'm angry at the unfairness, but I don't want to stop reading.  The book is about bad stuff, but it's still a good book."

Yes, Brother.  

Exactly.

We might have finished Girl of the Limberlost, but we had Little Mister . . . and Little Princess had to go to work.

We have only 10 pages left.

Ten. Pages.

I've loved this book for years and years, and I love it still, but this time I'm seeing it through my current teens' eyes, and they are a bit more critical than I've ever been before.  

They make and defend their points admirably.

Our dance dress rehearsal showed us lots and lots of flaws!!

But that's a good thing for a dress rehearsal to do, and now we've fixed a lot of those flaws for our first show next week!

I have the goal of getting photos of the numbers I choreographed, costumed, and taught, but I'm usually so wrapped up in the dance that I forget to pull out my phone. 

I think our audiences will really enjoy the dances, and I feel like we put together a fun show.

I'm still working on accessories, though!! 🤣🤣🤣

While I ran errands all day Saturday, Sir Walter Scott organized a little basketball in the driveway and then let everyone watch a college football game.



Today (Sunday) the teens are off to a church youth fireside (church this morning already happened), and then they'll come home for a quiet evening with the family.

We'll have Little Mister at least 2 days in the week ahead, and then we'll find out what his mama's schedule will be.  

Crazily enough, it's time to plan for the holidays.

How does that happen so fast every year?

And that's why I missed a week of posting about our homeschool. I was so sick. So. Sick. But now I'm okay, and my family helped me every day, and we didn't do much school, but we did what we could, and it's okay. More Seizures

 I was ready to post last week, but Ladybug had seizures--4 of them in 17 hours--and that rather rocked our world. She's now on an anti-seizure med, and hopefully it will work without negative side effects. I have a camera set up in her room that broadcasts to my phone that I keep on all night, so that I can be aware of her while she sleeps.  It is motion-sensitive, sending me an alert every time she moves enough to set it off.  (Thank goodness it's sensitive, but not TOO sensitive!) In addition, we're doing a mental health therapy intake appointment this week; Ladybug has an EEG scheduled; we have our usual case management appointment; we're taking the last set of two kids into the PCP to establish care; and I've got to do a pre-intake interview for a comprehensive neurodevelopmental assessment for Lola. I'm Drowning in Dance Costumes!

 Really, it's my own fault that I'm drowning in dance costumes. But making them is so much more affordable than buying them, and we're doing a theme this year that we've never done before, so we need a lot of new stuff. I've completed 4 4T bandana skirts and 2 women's small peasant dresses--both to supplement our current costume stash. (I also made a pair of upcycled fuzzy pajama pants for Lola, but that has nothing to do with dance!) Nature Angel is responsible for a can-can number for the older girls.  Have you seen can-can costumes!?!?!?  They're fancy. We've let go of almost all of our wishes to settle on circle skirts with petticoats under them.   We already own a couple dozen petticoats. But we don't have enough matching circle skirts, nor do we have any tops to go with the skirts.   So . . .
