Two Weeks of Med Chaos and Regular Life

We had psych appointments on Monday of two weeks ago.  Dr K-- and I discussed the boys' conditions for a long time, and we pulled Brother in to get his opinion about a few things.  In the end, we decided to make some changes.

However, our insurance made some changes to our pharmacy coverage, and not only did they change the way prescriptions have to be made, they forced us to change pharmacies from one that always had our meds in stock to one that had not even one of our meds in stock!

(It's gonna be an interesting time for a while.)

Because we'd already been struggling with the prescription situation--trying to get refills before the changes were made --we were in the danger zone for running out completely.

And we did.

(Run out of their meds, that is.)

My anxiety--both from spending hours on the phone every day and from watching for signs of withdrawal and/or violence--was through the roof, and I was taking a full dose of one of my meds that I usually only need half of.  This doubled the side effects (making life hard in a different way), but kept me from breaking down while our boys were in danger of breaking down.

We had a couple of scary moments, but we made it through without anyone being hurt or running away.

The med situation is resolved for the moment.

And I'm counting my blessings.

Over these two weeks, we finished up our astronomy unit, finished George's Secret Key to the Universe, started Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, and started Carry On, Mr. Bowditch.

The days with -- marked in a subject mean we had emergencies of some sort that prevented us from doing those subjects.  The days can be challenging!

This one is supposed to say week of Jan 29-Feb 2.  And I forgot to note that we read the first chapter of Ocean Anatomy and made diagrams of the ocean depth levels.

The teens and I finished up the first semester of Mystery of History vol 3, and we're making good headway on the second semester.

We hit a section of their grammar book that felt redundant.  I was flipping through the pages to find information relevant to their education, and I decided to assign a research paper to them both: The History of Anything.

Nature Angel chose Aran sweaters.
Little Princess chose socks.

Thus far, they've found 5 reliable sources each (we had a lesson on how to determine website reliability), and they're working on studying those sources and taking notes using the index card system.  The coming weeks will include sorting their index cards into outlines, writing their papers, and then revising.

In the meantime, they're both working industriously on their independent subjects.

Little Princess is flying through Algebra 1 and Geometry.  She's only just tolerating Geometry, but it's forcing her to think things through in a logical fashion, and that's something she's both good at and needs to develop further.

She also was promoted to Cadet Master Sergeant at CAP on Thursday night.

She's so cute in uniform!  Apparently, that's the face I make as I try to get her new pin through her collar.

I see Nature Angel working on painting, hear her practicing the guitar, and know she's making good progress in Algebra 2 as well as her other subjects.

We've had all of our practice sessions for American Rhythm, and we now have a run of shows to look forward to.  I was watching the kids dance and marveling at how much they've learned in only a matter of weeks.  We're not a professional sort of group, but our kids sure learn and share a lot!

I think this was watching the documentary about the Apollo Space Program

Lola was inspired to draw a view of the earth from space.  She's also drawn galaxies and star clusters.  She really likes drawing with chalk.

This was the kids drawing a chickadee from an instructional video.

Lola loves dragons.  Here she's sculpting an intricate dragon out of clay.

A week ago Friday, I walked around the house at 11:00 am snapping pictures of the kids just doing what they were doing.

(It seems I forgot to find Baymax!)

Lola was helping The Munchkin with a game.

Brother was patiently, patiently playing dollies with Sugar Bear.

Pokemon battling

Ladybug was practicing the piano, with dinos for company.

Nature Angel was ironing her jeans (they were really wrinkly) for a job interview at Freddy's.

Little Princess was napping (after having been to seminary, done her chores, participated in morning meeting, attended grammar and history lessons, and baked a snack for us all)

My best guess is that Baymax was holed up somewhere reading a book. :)

He's wearing a boot, by the way.  He landed badly after jumping off some furniture in a wild dino game with The Munchkin.  It's not broken, but the x-ray found an anomaly in the bone that hurts.  They said it was the kind of thing they'd dismiss with no concern if it didn't hurt the way it does.  He's in a boot as a precaution (and because she's still in pain).  He's due to be re-examined this week.

  1. Oooh, no fun to be in pain or boot! My Eli messed up his knee and had surgery a week ago, and is still hurting. :(

And yikes on running out of meds. Insurance is a mixed blessing for sure. I hate what the medical field has turned into. :sigh:

The history of anything sounds like a fabulous project! That's my favorite way of learning. "I wonder how? I wonder what?"

Lola's dragon is awesome, and congrats to LP on the CAP promotion!
