More Endings

I think the worst ending of the past two weeks is the ending of a friendship that I thought was solid.   It's a long and ridiculous story. Pride. Pride is a terrible thing. So is self doubt. Both of which I have in spades. (We literally just finished The Screwtape Letters this week, so we've been studying pride and self-doubt!   " . . . if you want to find out how proud you are the easiest way is to ask yourself, ‘How much do I dislike it when other people snub me, or refuse to take any notice of me, or shove their oar in, or patronise me, or show off?’" I was snubbed, not taken notice of, had an oar shoved in what I thought was my space, patronized, and shown off in front of, and I got mad. Really mad. I am trying very hard to repent. I am trying very hard to forgive. But I no longer feel safe around this person that I previously trusted with my real self. My flawed, imperfect, real self. I think I'm somewhat muddled up with the teachings of Christ and the teach...

It's a New Year Already!

This is a good representation of how we're living these days.  We did it. We did Christmas, and we did New Year's Eve, and we rested. We had the most hilarious family nativity ever! Rose Red filmed the whole thing (a video far too long to share here), and we watched it twice over because it felt so good to laugh and laugh and laugh. I was reading the story as narrator, but I like to feed the kids lines sometimes.  I think I told Beowulf 4 times in a row that his line as a shepherd arriving at the stable was, "Is this the child?" He walked right up to the manger and said, "Is this the sheep?" We howled until our sides hurt. It took a while to get back on track and finish the story. Sir Walter Scott was a grumpy King Herod. The wise men look uncertain. But they made it to the baby. Such a patient sheep! (Wearing a costume and everything) Our c...

Surprise!

Here are my oldest four girls. My first set of babies. Looking so beautiful! A childhood friend got married this weekend, so Pixie flew out, and Super Star drove over, and all four of them attended the wedding an hour or so away from here. Pixie's arrival was a complete surprise (she loves to do that!).   And we have just laughed ourselves sick having all of us together. As I write, I have a ham in the oven, pumpkin desserts on the counter, side dishes to prepare, and dinner with all 13 kids (12+1 son-in-law) and Sir Walter Scott to look forward to. The weather also finally decided to be fall today. It's such a happy day!! As for school and all . . . after taking a kind-of-break while Little Princess was gone, I'm having a hard time finding our rhythm again. It doesn't help that I'm making getting outside with the kids a priority. And I know that the outside time counts! I do! It's kind of ridiculous that I feel guilty about doing bookwork because we need the ...
